« Rainbow » coloured
oasis and dyed flowers Workshop
The club will provide one brick of purple oasis to each participant; extra
blocks will be available for purchase at $4/piece. The brick can be used in a
container or shaped as a sculpture or a container. It is recommended to trace
the design and practice on a piece of used oasis before using the coloured one.
- flowers (lilies are now in season), greenery, transparent vase or any other container; Aquadhere glue can be used to glue pieces of oasis together.
- If you wish to dye flowers with food colouring, white flowers (daisies and carnations are the most frequently used but you can try with any white flower) are recommended. Prepare the colouring solution with 20-30 drops of food colouring in ½ glass of lukewarm water. Make a cut in the stem and let the flower absorb the coloured water, typically for 24h. It may take longer for long stem flowers or the resulting colour may be less intense. Several colours can be used when the stem is cut in several sections.
Have fun, enjoy the
chemistry and bring your experiments to share with us.
